Port-A-Cool, LLC in Center teamed with Texas Motor Speedway Sept. 16-17 as the title sponsor for the “Port-A-Cool U.S. National Dirt Track Championship” races at the Fort Worth NASCAR track.
Some 220 competitors from 20 states converged on the TMS dirt track where an estimated 6,000 - 7,000 fans saw national champions crowned in three classes Saturday night.
Racing was scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights, but mother nature had other plans. Storms moved into North Texas late Friday dumping a much needed two inches of rain across the area right before race time. Complaints were few, however with drought conditions statewide, and Friday night’s races were rescheduled for Saturday morning. Some six hours of eliminations originally set for Friday night were completed throughout the day Saturday in time for opening ceremonies that night.
The weather was perfect and a number of Port-A-Cool, LLC employees, family members and friends were among the spectators to enjoy an evening of championship dirt track racing. The company had product trailers positioned in the pit area, plus a trade show style booth on the spectator side at the entrance to the grandstands. Employees working the race at the two locations were Western Division Manager Randy Floyd, Eastern Division Manager Todd Waldhauser, Vice President of U.S. Sales Jeff Lloyd, Region Manager Billy Thompson, Region Manager Mike Wulf, National Accounts Manager Shane Cupp, Director of Retail Sales Rick Kelly, Sales/Marketing Operations Manager Thomas Morrison and Director of Advertising and Marketing Leon Aldridge. Attending and assisting the Port-A-Cool team was Managing Director Melodie Elliott of Sunwest Communications PR firm in Dallas.
As title sponsor, Port-A-Cool, LLC representatives were tagged for honorary duties. Waldhauser was named Grand Marshall and issued the legendary command “Driver’s, start your engines” for the evening’s final championship race. Serving as honorary starter for each of the three championship races to wave the green flag were Cupp, Morrison and Aldridge.
Winner’s circle celebrations followed each of the three final championship races and included driver interviews, presentations and fireworks where Aldridge represented the company presenting the winner’s check, trophy and a Port-A-Cool Cyclone 3000 to each championship winner.
The final race of the night for the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model class championship started with main event competitors entering the track with each car displaying an American flag for parade laps after which the cars lined up along the front stretch for driver introductions, and the Grand Marshall’s call.
Championship winners in each of the three classes were Troy Taylor of Fort Worth in Limited Modified class, Clyde Dunn of Sunnyvale in Modified class, and Ray Moore of Haughton, La. in the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model class.
